Three Different Kinds of Stress - Acute, Episodic and Chronic

Aristotle Concept of Eudaimonia Essay Sample. Aristotle (Ancient Greek: ???????????, Aristoteles) (384 BC 322 BC)[1] was a Greekphilosopher and polymath, a student of Plato and teacher of stress, Alexander the Great. Modern Day Transcendentalist! His writings cover many subjects, including physics, metaphysics, poetry, theater, music, logic, rhetoric, linguistics, politics, government, ethics, biology, and zoology. Acute Stress! Together withPlato and modern Socrates (Plato#8217;s teacher), Aristotle is one of the most important founding figures in Western philosophy. Aristotle#8217;s writings were the first to create a comprehensive system of Western philosophy, encompassing morality, aesthetics, logic, science, politics, andmetaphysics. Aristotle#8217;s views on the physical sciences profoundly shaped medieval scholarship, and their influence extended well into the Renaissance, although they were ultimately replaced by Newtonian physics. In the zoological sciences, some of his observations were confirmed to be accurate only in the 19th century. His works contain the acute, earliest known formal study of logic, which was incorporated in the late 19th century into modern formal logic. In metaphysics, Aristotelianism had a profound influence on philosophical and theological thinking in the Islamic and Jewish traditions in the Middle Ages, and it continues to Median Household Income influence Christian theology, especially the scholastic tradition of the example, Catholic Church. His ethics, though always influential, gained renewed interest with the beowulf symbols, modern advent of virtue ethics.

All aspects of Aristotle#8217;s philosophy continue to be the object of active academic study today. Though Aristotle wrote many elegant treatises and dialogues (Cicerodescribed his literary style as #8220;a river of gold#8221;),[2] it is thought that the majority of stress example, his writings are now lost and only about one-third of the original works have survived.[3] Aristotle#8217;s Ethics. Aristotle conceives of ethical theory as a field distinct from the theoretical sciences. Its methodology must match its subject mattergood actionand must respect the fact that in this field many generalizations hold only for the most part. We study ethics in british intranet order to stress improve our lives, and beowulf symbols therefore its principal concern is the nature of human well-being. Aristotle follows Socrates and Plato in taking the virtues to be central to acute a well-lived life. Like Plato, he regards the modern, ethical virtues (justice, courage, temperance and so on) as complex rational, emotional and social skills. But he rejects Plato#8217;s idea that a training in the sciences and metaphysics is a necessary prerequisite for a full understanding of our good. What we need, in acute stress example order to live well, is a proper appreciation of the way in which such goods as friendship, pleasure, virtue, honor and wealth fit together as a whole. In order to apply that general understanding to beowulf symbols particular cases, we must acquire, through proper upbringing and habits, the ability to see, on each occasion, which course of action is best supported by acute stress example, reasons.

Therefore practical wisdom, as he conceives it, cannot be acquired solely by learning general rules. We must also acquire, through practice, those deliberative, emotional, and leadership social skills that enable us to acute stress example put our general understanding of well-being into practice in ways that are suitable to each occasion. Aristotle wrote two ethical treatises: the Nicomachean Ethics and the Eudemian Ethics. He does not himself use either of these titles, although in the Politics (1295a36) he refers back to one of themprobably the developmental definition, Eudemian Ethicsas ta ethikahis writings about acute, character. The words Eudemian and Nicomachean were added later, perhaps because the former was edited by his friend, Eudemus, and the latter by his son, Nicomachus. In any case, these two works cover more or less the same ground: they begin with a discussion of eudaimonia ( happiness, flourishing), and turn to british airways intranet an examination of the nature of arete (virtue, excellence) and the character traits that human beings need in order to live life at its best.

Both treatises examine the conditions in which praise or blame are appropriate, and the nature of pleasure and friendship; near the end of each work, we find a brief discussion of the proper relationship between human beings and the divine. Though the acute, general point of view expressed in each work is the same, there are many subtle differences in developmental psychology definition organization and content as well. Clearly, one is a re-working of the other, and although no single piece of evidence shows conclusively what their order is, it is stress example widely assumed that the Nicomachean Ethics is a later and improved version of the Eudemian Ethics. Beowulf Symbols! (Not all of the stress, Eudemian Ethics was revised: its Books IV, V, and VI re-appear as V, VI, VII of the modern, Nicomachean Ethics.) Perhaps the most telling indication of this ordering is that in several instances the stress example, Nicomachean Ethics develops a theme about which its Eudemian cousin is silent. Only the Nicomachean Ethics discusses the close relationship between ethical inquiry and politics; only the Nicomachean Ethics critically examines Solon#8217;s paradoxical dictum that no man should be counted happy until he is dead; and only the Nicomachean Ethics gives a series of arguments for the superiority of the philosophical life to the political life. The remainder of this article will therefore focus on this work.

Although Aristotle is deeply indebted to Plato#8217;s moral philosophy, particularly Plato#8217;s central insight that moral thinking must be integrated with our emotions and appetites, and modern that the preparation for such unity of character should begin with childhood education, the systematic character of Aristotle#8217;s discussion of these themes was a remarkable innovation. No one had written ethical treatises before Aristotle. Plato#8217;s Republic, for example, does not treat ethics as a distinct subject matter; nor does it offer a systematic examination of the nature of stress, happiness, virtue, voluntariness, pleasure, or friendship. To be sure, we can find in Plato#8217;s works important discussions of these phenomena, but they are not brought together and developmental psychology unified as they are in Aristotle#8217;s ethical writings. Example! Aristotle on eudaimonia. What Is The Crucible! The principal idea with which Aristotle begins is that there are differences of opinion about what is best for acute example, human beings, and developmental psychology that to profit from stress example, ethical inquiry we must resolve this disagreement. He insists that ethics is what crucible not a theoretical discipline: we are asking what the good for human beings is not simply because we want to have knowledge, but because we will be better able to achieve our good if we develop a fuller understanding of what it is to flourish. Acute Stress Example! In raising this questionwhat is the modern, good?Aristotle is acute stress example not looking for a list of items that are good. Developmental Definition! He assumes that such a list can be compiled rather easily; most would agree, for example, that it is good to have friends, to experience pleasure, to be healthy, to be honored, and to have such virtues as courage at least to some degree. The difficult and controversial question arises when we ask whether certain of these goods are more desirable than others.

Aristotle#8217;s search for the good is a search for the highestgood, and stress example he assumes that the highest good, whatever it turns out to be, has three characteristics: it is desirable for itself, it is not desirable for british airways, the sake of stress, some other good, and day transcendentalist all other goods are desirable for its sake. Aristotle thinks everyone will agree that the terms eudaimonia (happiness) and stress eu zen (living well) designate such an developmental psychology definition, end. The Greek term eudaimon is composed of two parts: eu means well and daimon means divinity or spirit. To be eudaimon is therefore to be living in a way that is stress example well-favored by a god. But Aristotle never calls attention to this etymology, and it seems to Essay Median Household have little influence on acute, his thinking. He regards eudaimon as a mere substitute for eu zen (living well).

These terms play an evaluative role, and are not simply descriptions of someone#8217;s state of mind. No one tries to british airways intranet live well for the sake of some further goal; rather, being eudaimon is the highest end, and all subordinate goalshealth, wealth, and other such resourcesare sought because they promote well-being, not because they are what well-being consists in. But unless we can determine which good or goods happiness consists in, it is of little use to acknowledge that it is the highest end. To resolve this issue, Aristotle asks what the ergon (function, task, work) of a human being is, and stress argues that it consists in activity of the rational part of the soul in accordance with virtue (1097b221098a20). One important component of this argument is expressed in terms of distinctions he makes in his psychological and british airways intranet biological works. The soul is analyzed into acute a connected series of what is the crucible, capacities: the stress example, nutritive soul is responsible for theory, growth and reproduction, the locomotive soul for motion, the perceptive soul for perception, and so on. The biological fact Aristotle makes use of is that human beings are the only species that has not only these lower capacities but a rational soul as well. The good of a human being must have something to do with being human; and what sets humanity off from other species, giving us the example, potential to live a better life, is is the crucible about our capacity to guide ourselves by using reason.

If we use reason well, we live well as human beings; or, to be more precise, using reason well over the course of a full life is what happiness consists in. Doing anything well requires virtue or excellence, and therefore living well consists in activities caused by the rational soul in accordance with virtue or excellence. Aristotle#8217;s conclusion about the nature of happiness is in a sense uniquely his own. No other writer or thinker had said precisely what he says about what it is to live well. But at acute the same time his view is not too distant from a common idea. As he himself points out, one traditional conception of happiness identifies it with virtue (1098b301).

Aristotle#8217;s theory should be construed as a refinement of this position. He says, not that happiness is virtue, but that it is virtuous activity. Living well consists in doing something, not just being in a certain state or condition. Leadership! It consists in acute those lifelong activities that actualize the definition, virtues of the rational part of the soul. At the same time, Aristotle makes it clear that in acute example order to be happy one must possess others goods as wellsuch goods as friends, wealth, and power. And one#8217;s happiness is endangered if one is severely lacking in certain advantagesif, for example, one is extremely ugly, or has lost children or good friends through death Aristotle#8217;s says that one#8217;s virtuous activity will be to some extent diminished or defective, if one lacks an adequate supply of other goods.

Someone who is friendless, childless, powerless, weak, and ugly will simply not be able to beowulf symbols find many opportunities for virtuous activity over a long period of time, and what little he can accomplish will not be of stress example, great merit. To some extent, then, living well requires good fortune; happenstance can rob even the developmental psychology definition, most excellent human beings of happiness. Nonetheless, Aristotle insists, the highest good, virtuous activity, is not something that comes to us by chance. Although we must be fortunate enough to have parents and fellow citizens who help us become virtuous, we ourselves share much of the responsibility for acute example, acquiring and exercising the virtues. is a Greek word commonly translated as happiness or welfare; however, #8220;human flourishing#8221; has been proposed as a more accurate translation.[1] Etymologically, it consists of the developmental definition, words #8220;eu#8221; (#8220;good#8221;) and #8220;daimon#8221; (#8220;spirit) .[2] In Aristotle#8217;s works, eudaimonia was (based on older Greek tradition) used as the term for the highest human good, and so it is the aim of practical philosophy, including ethics and political philosophy, to consider (and also experience) what it really is, and how it can be achieved.

In his Nicomachean Ethics, (21; 1095a1522) Aristotle says that everyone agrees that eudaimonia is the highest good for human beings, but that there is substantial disagreement on stress, what sort of life counts as doing and living well; i.e. Day Transcendentalist! eudaimon: Aristotle points out, saying that eudaimon life is a life which is stress objectively desirable, and means living well, is not saying very much. Leadership Theory! Everyone wants to be eudaimon; and everyone agrees that being eudaimon is related to faring well and to an individuals well being. Stress! The really difficult question is to specify just what sort of activities enable one to live well. Aristotle presents various popular conceptions of the best life for human beings. The candidates that he mentions are a (1) life of pleasure, (2) a life of political activity and what is the crucible (3) a philosophical life. Acute Stress Example! Aristotle. In outline, for Aristotle, eudaimonia involves activity, exhibiting virtue (arete sometimes translated as excellence) in accordance with reason. This conception of eudaimonia derives from modern day transcendentalist, Aristotles essentialist understanding of human nature, the view that reason(logos sometimes translated as rationality) is unique to human beings and that the ideal function or work (ergon) of a human being is the fullest or most perfect exercise of reason. Basically, well being (eudaimonia) is gained by proper development of one#8217;s highest and most human capabilities and human beings are #8220;the rational animal#8221;. It follows that eudaimonia for a human being is the stress example, attainment of excellence (arete) in reason.

According to Aristotle, eudaimonia actually requires activity, action, so that it is not sufficient for a person to possess a squandered ability or disposition. Eudaimonia requires not only good character but rational activity. Aristotle clearly maintains that to live in Median Household Income accordance with reason means achieving excellence thereby. Moreover, he claims this excellence cannot be isolated and so competencies are also required appropriate to related functions. Acute! For example, if being a truly outstanding scientist requires impressive math skills, so that one might say #8220;doing mathematics well is necessary to be a first rate scientist#8221;. Essay On Illinois Median Income! From this it follows that eudaimonia, living well, consists in activities exercising the rational part of the psyche in accordance with the virtues or excellency of reason [1097b221098a20]. Which is to say, to be fully engaged in the intellectually stimulating and fulling work at which one achieves well-earned success. The rest of the Nicomachean Ethics is devoted to filling out the claim that best life for a human being is the life of excellence in accordance with reason.

Since reason for Aristotle is not only theoretical but practical also, he spends quite a bit. Is this the perfect essay for you? Save time and order Aristotle Concept of Eudaimonia. In Nichomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues the highest end is the human good, and claims that the highest end pursued in action is happiness. Also, Aristotle claims that happiness is achieved#8230; Aristotle on example, Friendship. About! Aristotle is intranet known as one of outstanding thinkers revealing the ideas of eternal wisdom to humanity. No wonder that his ethical ideas on civic relationships still find their reflection in#8230; Wisdom and Pleasure: Overview of Ethical Thought in Lucretius and Aristotle. Philosophical thinkers in antiquity seem to follow a general trend in favour of self-discipline and imperturbability as opposed to excess, and arguably Aristotle and Lucretius, despite their many differences, do#8230; Maslow and Aristotle: Similarities and differences. What I did not know at the time was that Cook had edited all of stress Wallers QRS output. Having collected all the available Waller rolls, I am now firmly of the opinion that Cooks contribution to them went much further than a simple editing job there is at least one documented instance of Fats starting a roll but failing to turn up to finish it, so Cook had to trait, complete the example, job. Joseph Crawford was the real name of Buddie Petit, the renowned second generation New Orleans cornet player. Beowulf Symbols? According to his World War I Draft Card, Buddie was born on developmental psychology 23rd December 1896, but there is stress considerable conjecture about the actual date of his birth. Karl Koenig, a prolific researcher of early New Orleans music, opted for a birth date of 4th August 1896 in beowulf symbols his book Under the Influence: The Four Hornsmen of New Orleans Jazz, 1994. The 1900 U.S. Census recorded a date of August 1895 (as Joseph Petit); the acute example, 1910 U.S. Census recorded an age of 12 (born 1897) on 15th April 1910 (as Joseph Crawford); Buddie married Lizzie Braxton on 24th December 1912 and gave his age as twenty-two (born 1890); the british airways, age of twenty-four (born 1895) was recorded as at 1st January 1920 in the 1920 U.S. Census (as Joseph Crawford); he was listed as Joseph Crawford in acute example the 1930 U.S. Census as thirty-three years of age on 1st April 1930 (born 1896); and his death certificate is consistent with a birth year of 1897.

But, man, those guys could really play. Petit was second only to intranet, Keppard on the cornet, had tremendous power in all registers and great ideas. He was a slow reader, but if the tune was played off first, he would pick up his part so fast no one knew he couldnt read. And, as for Dusen (Duson), he was the best there was at acute example, that time on trombone. So we had a very hot five-piece band and made plenty money $75 a night and tips doubled the definition, salaries.

For the rest of his life, he confined his playing to his home state, Louisiana, and the other Gulf of Mexico states of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. January 2009 Peter Hanley. His younger brother Warren Dodds Jr. (1894-1959), who was invariably known as Baby Dodds, was the famous jazz drummer. October 2008 Brian Goggin. Developmental? Jelly Roll said that he first went to acute stress, Memphis around nineteen eight, possibly the psychology definition, earliest part of the year. Unfortunately, his biographical information is just as scarce as the recordings . . . March 2008 Hal Smith.

Dink Johnson was the youngest brother of Anita Gonzales Ford (Bessie Johnson), the woman Jelly Roll Morton referred to as his wife, although there is no evidence they were ever married. Acute Stress? Dink registered for the draft on 5th June 1917 as Dink Johnson, not under his real name. His draft card contains some information in conflict with what has been previously accepted as factual. May 2007 Peter Hanley. William Manuel Johnson. 12th September 1918.

William Manuel (Bill) Johnson was one of the earliest jazz musicians, and his career as a musician began in the late 1880s and extended to the 1950s. Although the registering officer at the draft board wrote his middle name as Manual, Bill clearly signed the card as William Manuel Johnson. A fine guitar and banjo player, he was better known as a pioneering string bass player, perhaps the best of the golden period of the 1920s. Trait? Historically, Bill Johnson is remembered as the organiser and manager of the Creole Band, the stress example, first band to psychology definition, take jazz across the United States and into Canada on acute stress their many tours in the period from 1914 to the early part of 1918. For a detailed history of the band, our readers should read Prof. Lawrence Gushees fine book, Pioneers of Jazz: The Story of the Creole Band. [SCB] June 2007 Peter Hanley. 12th September 1918. Willie Geary (Bunk) Johnson was certainly a travelling man. After he left New Orleans permanently about what about 1914, he was incessantly on the move, establishing a base in New Iberia only in 1928 when he commenced to stress, live with Maude Balque. Bunk was known to have played at various times in Essay Household the Louisiana towns of Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Bogalusa, Crowley, Madisonvillle and Mandeville; he played in Beaumont, Dallas, Electra, Houston, and acute stress, Port Arthur in Texas; and he claimed that he was in bands in Chicago, Kansas City, Montana, San Francisco and West Virginia.

February 2007 Peter Hanley. At the time of his death in 1945, Richard Jones was described as the forgotten man of psychology jazz but, happily, he is now remembered and admired for his achievements as a composer, pianist/bandleader and record producer. Acute Example? His compositions include such classics as 29th and Dearborn, Heebie Jeebie(s), Jazzin Babies Blues and Trouble In Mind and Essay on Illinois Household Income, his small-group recordings, usually under the name Richard M. Stress? Jones Jazz Wizards , set both the format and the standard for south-side Chicago jazz. Is The Crucible About? Although his piano playing is now usually described as competent, the people he played with include Louis Armstrong, Shirley Clay, Johnny Dodds, Preston Jackson, Dave Nelson, Albert Nicholas, Jimmie Noone, King Oliver, Roy Palmer, Luis Russell, Bud Scott, Omer Simeon and Johnny St. Acute Example? Cyr.

As a record producer he brought King Oliver to the attention of Gennett and Ma Rainey to the attention of trait theory Paramount. For Okeh, he organised the first recordings by the Louis Armstrong Hot Five. February 2007 Anton Crouch. Max Kortlander (1890-1961) was an example, important figure in the QRS piano roll company. Is The? An excellent pianist, he had joined the example, company in 1914 progressing to become manager of the Recording Department.

As a songwriter, he had scored a big success in developmental definition 1918 with Tell Me , which was recorded by acute Al Jolson among others. It is said that the sale of this song to the Remick publishing firm was the about, basis of Kortlanders fortune. November 2006 John Farrell. Thomas James Ladnier. 12th September 1918. According to his WWI draft card, Thomas James Ladnier lived in Chicago and was employed as a labourer with Armour Co., which was one of the largest meatpacking companies in the U.S.A. For many years, along with a handful of stress other companies, Armour helped to make Chicagos Union Stockyards the centre of the crucible, meat industry in the country. Stress Example? Ladniers 1925 passport application and ship passenger lists from trips between Europe and New York in trait 1926, 1930 and 1931 support the birth date of 28th May 1900 that is shown on the draft card.

His obituary, published in The Chicago Defender, dated 17th June 1939, spells his name Ladiner, while John Chilton states that the original family name was Ladner. [WWJ 191] However, Ladniers cousin Calvin Ladner (sic) stated that Ladnier was indeed the correct spelling of the name. Acute Example? Ladnier was almost certainly born in St. Tammany Parish, Florenville (not Florenceville), Louisiana, but had relatives in modern Biloxi, Mississippi. He received cornet tuition from Bunk Johnson as a youngster and moved to Chicago around 1917. He was primarily based there until 1925, during which time his employers included Ollie Powers, King Oliver, Fate Marable and Charlie Creath. Stress? Tommy Ladnier is generally identified by is the crucible many discographers as the cornet player on Jelly Roll Mortons earliest verified recording session in Chicago in 1923. Stress? [JRM] We later went on to play for what crucible about dancing at acute stress example, some villa, where the orchestra was to appear privately for the Royal family. Here occurred one of the most amusing incidents, but it also was an incident of modern day transcendentalist almost international importance.

Willie Lewis always had the bad habit of butting in during another instrumentalists solo. At this dance he did it again during a spot taken by Tommy Ladnier. Tommy, usually the mildest of stress example men, got to his feet and Essay Household Income, slowly walked across stage and, thrusting his trumpet in Willies face, said: Here you want to play my solo, go take my horn and example, get on with it. Sam Wooding got in a towering rage: Alright now damn you both, cut it out! Cant you see the Royal family are out there watching! To hell with the King and the whole . . . lot of definition em replied Tommy. If he can play my solo better than I can, let em. And as for acute that monkey over there (pointing to Willie Lewis), you tell him stay out of my solos or else . . . [HF 23-25]

Wooding preferred Doc Cheatham as a trumpeter, with whom he later replaced Ladnier, but he regarded Tommy as a fine storyteller and good for the morale of the band. September 2008 Brian Goggin. George William Mitchell. 12th September 1918. George William Mitchell was working as a labourer in day transcendentalist Jeffersonville, Indiana, when he registered for the draft in his home city of Louisville, Kentucky, on 12th September 1918. Stress Example? The Ohio River naturally demarcates the entire border between the what is the crucible, states of stress example Indiana, to the north, and Kentucky, to the south. The cities of Jeffersonville and modern, Louisville are built on opposite banks of the river at the Falls Of The Ohio.

Jeffersonville is currently home to the United States Census Bureaus National Processing Center, while Louisville has produced several people of note, and was well known for its jug band tradition. Mitchells draft card gives a birth date of acute stress 8th March 1898, which is beowulf symbols supported by the ages given for him in the Kentucky 1910 Miracode Index, along with the 1910 and 1920 U.S. Censuses. However, his death certificate, his Social Security Death Index entry and stress example, jazz reference books give a birth date of 8th March 1899. The earlier date is almost certainly correct though, considering that the sources that support it predate those that do not by several decades. It seems that he also went by his middle name, William, as that is the name he supplied to the 1920 census taker, rather than George. Perhaps this is why he signed his draft card with George abbreviated to what about, Geo and acute stress example, William written in full. Jelly would write out the parts for all the psychology, guys to acute stress, play. Some of those boys, like Simeon and Ory, could just sit down and go through a thing and play without any music, but Id have to have something as a guide. Leadership Trait Theory? I was a little thick-headed I guess. Some of acute stress example those boys like Louis Armstrong or Joe Oliver, they had wonderful ideas and could play the life out of them.

So Jelly would always fix up something for me. He would show me and give me ideas about something to play. Sometimes he would play the whole piece over on the piano, or hed just play or hum the what, part he wanted you to example, play. But he always wanted you to play your own ideas, yeah. Then hed tell us Just throw the Essay on Illinois Median Income, music away and play. . Stress? . . He was a fellow who liked to have a lot of fun you know. He liked to do a lot of kidding. But Jelly was alright and I always got along with him. [OMJ 363-364] Mitchell rejoined Doc Cooke in 1927, replacing Freddie Keppard and joining his Red Hot Peppers colleagues Johnny St. Cyr and Andrew Hilaire. He worked with Earl Hiness orchestra for most of the period from 1929 through to 1931, and recorded with them. He was also present on the Dixie Rhythm Kings records, made by british intranet a contingent from Hiness orchestra under the leadership of another Red Hot Peppers colleague Omer Simeon.

He is also thought by some discographers to be the cornet player on the 25th February 1929 King Olivers Orchestra session, which has generated so much debate and acute stress example, discussion over the years. Developmental? Little Mitch left full-time music in the early 1930s to become a bank messenger, but continued to play occasional engagements during that decade. He worked as a messenger for a brokerage firm during most of the 1950s and 60s alongside another wonderful old trumpeter Claude Alexander, whod been with Tiny Parham. Claude remembered once when they went after work to the London House to hear Jonah Jones, who was then one of the example, hottest acts in the music business. Jonah was tickled to leadership trait, see Mitch and made sure he took a big bow when he introduced him, as Mitchell had taught him how to play back when he was a boy in acute stress example Louisville. Trait? Mitch was needless to say quite moved by the ovation. Although George Mitchell didnt hail from stress, New Orleans, he worked with many, probably even most of the then well-known New Orleans musicians in Chicago, and adopted their style with ease.

His main influence there was King Oliver who he had heard regularly since his arrival in the Windy City. Mitchell was a very capable cornet player, arguably second only to Armstrong and Oliver in british that particular style in acute Chicago during the mid 1920s. With a precise, clean lead, he could play hot , lyrically or poignantly, where appropriate. Leadership Trait Theory? He had a very individual sound, and acute, displayed great dexterity and effectiveness with his use of mutes. Airways? His lead work and solos on all of the Morton sides was excellent. Black Bottom Stomp stands out, while his solos on The Chant and stress example, Steamboat Stomp swing very nicely, and beowulf symbols, he is acute example particularly fluid and melodic on beowulf symbols Dead Man Blues . May 2009 Brian Goggin. Benson Foraker Moore.

Joseph Benson Foraker Moore was born in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky on 26th January 1889. His parents were John Frances McGinnis Moore and example, Sarah Angeline Dine Smith. He married Clara Elizabeth Kolhoven (born 28th November 1888) on 19th March 1912. Their only child, Charles Burse Moore, was born on 17th September 1913. IS TAKEN BY DEATH. Benson Froggy Moore Dies.

at Home of His Sister. Funeral services for Benson Froggy Moore, widely known night club and cafe entertainer in northern Kentucky, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Beowulf Symbols? Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. October 2007 Mike Meddings.

12th September 1918. King Oliver arrived in Chicago from New Orleans early in 1918, just a few months after the Department of the Navy closed down the Storyville sporting district. He registered for the World War I draft on 12th September 1918 in Chicago as Joseph Nathram Oliver. In actual fact, his middle name was Nathan, after his father, Nathan Oliver. Acute Example? At the time of registration, Joe was working at Bill Bottoms Dreamland Caf, located at 35th and State Street, in the band of Lawrence Duh who had taken over the group after the death of Sugar Johnny (Thomas Smith). March 2007 Peter Hanley. 12th September 1918. If the main bridge connecting ragtime to is the, jazz is named after Jelly Roll Morton and a smaller crossing is called the O.D.J.B., then perhaps there is a footbridge, which bears the name of acute stress example clarinetist Tony Parenti. Developmental Psychology? Born in New Orleans on 6th August 1900, of Sicilian immigrants, he was a natural musician, with legitimate training. Stress? At 15 he was considered too young by his parents to join a Dixieland band Johnny Stein was planning to take to New York, but by the age of british intranet 17 he was playing with cornetist Johnny DeDroits group.

The pianist with DeDroits band was Tom Zimmerman, reported to be the greatest ragtime piano player of the acute stress example, tango belt. July 2007 Derek Coller. According to his World War I draft card, Lee Perry was born 15th August 1896 in crucible Louisville, Kentucky. Example? The card gives his occupation as a musician in the Park Theatre in Indianapolis, where he registered for the draft on 5th June 1917. Developmental? He was recorded in acute Louisville in the 1900 U.S. Census, strangely, as Myrtle L. Perry, a daughter of the head of the house, born in August 1895. The 1910 and 1920 U.S. Census entries record Perry in Indianapolis as a musician in addresses that are two blocks away from beowulf symbols, each other.

His name is given as Mertie L. Perry in acute stress example 1910 and Lee Perry in 1920 and Household, both of example these entries are consistent with a birth date in August 1895. The 1930 U.S. Census saw him recorded as Mert Perry in New York and his occupation is again given as a musician, but his age is given as 32. Day Transcendentalist? Perrys Social Security Death Index entry gives his name as Merton Perry, and the same birth date as entered on the draft card, 15th August 1896. Acute? Combining all of this information, it would seem that his full name was Merton Lee Perry and he was born on 15th August in either 1895 or 1896. April 2008 Brian Goggin. Jelly Roll Morton referred to an African-American pianist he met in St. Louis around 1914 as George Randalls on the Library of Median Household Income Congress recordings. [AFS 1653-B] But later on, he called him George Reynolds his correct name. [AFS 2487-B] George Reynolds was born in acute stress example St.

Louis, Missouri on 24th February 1888, according to his World War I Draft Card. Modern Day Transcendentalist? He was drafted into acute example, the Army on 5th August 1918 and airways, was discharged with the rank of corporal on 18th December 1918. November 2006 Peter Hanley. Leland Stanford Roberts. 7th September 1918. What Lee S. Example? Roberts (1884-1949) did before joining the Melville Clark Piano Co. is unknown, but it seems clear that he early became regarded as the central figure in the companys QRS roll division.

After the Pletcher interests purchased QRS in 1918, Roberts became the companys vice president and Essay Median Household Income, was billed in contemporary sales literature as the worlds leading expert in acute stress example player rolls. January 2007 Bob Berkman. James Andrew Rushing. 12th September 1918. James Andrew Rushing registered for modern day transcendentalist the World War I draft in his home city of acute Oklahoma. His draft card gives a date of birth of 26th of August 1900, but this is beowulf symbols certainly not true, as he was recorded as James A. Rushing in the U.S. Census on 8th June 1900 in a rather curious entry.

His birth details in stress example the entry disagree, stating explicitly that he was born June 1899, but that he was 10 months old, which would mean he was born August 1899. He is also said to be the granddaughter of the beowulf symbols, head of the house! The 1910 U.S. Census agrees with the 1900 entry, giving his age as 10, while the example, 1920 U.S. Census gives his age as 19, in line with the draft card. However, his Social Security Death Record states that he was born 15th June 1899. Combining all of this information, Rushing was almost certainly born on either 15th June or 26th August 1899.

My biggest thrill was when I met Jelly Roll Morton. 1923. Is The Crucible? Right in California, Los Angeles. In California, in stress Los Angeles. Theory? Were you working out here then? No. I came out here . Stress? . Airways Intranet? . I came out here, incidentally to marry! [laughs] But something happened. I dont know. Stress? I was too young a man.

So, er, got out here in California and airways intranet, I went to work and I decided to acute stress, go to a nightclub in Los Angeles, it was. I went to this nightclub and, er, Jelly Roll was playing there and I thought he was the greatest thing I ever heard and I just went and made myself acquainted with him. And er, we got to be real chummy and is the, er, one night I was hired to pl . . . I was hired to stress, play piano! He played drums! So when I was an intermission pianist I asked the fellow for the job. I could only play in three keys. We had entertainers those days that, er, when they hit the floor I mean with that when they come out to go to tables and leadership trait, sing.

Er, I guess the stress example, people are robbed of that kind of stuff today. Rushing also worked with bandleader and reedman Paul Howard during his time in California. It was as a singer however, rather than as a pianist, that Rushing gained fame. He moved back to the midwest in the mid-1920s and theory, his next break came when he joined bassist Walter Pages Blue Devils. Acute Stress? His distinctive voice and already mature vocal style are audible on one half of the only coupling Pages legendary band made, Blue Devil Blues in 1929. Day Transcendentalist? He left Page to acute example, join Bennie Motens Kansas City Orchestra in 1929 and remained with Moten until that leaders untimely death during a tonsillectomy in 1935. Developmental Psychology? Count Basie took over stress, the nucleus of Motens band and in what is the addition to acute stress example, appearances with other bandleaders; Rushing was Basies featured singer until 1948. Due to his short size and huge girth, he was known affectionately as Mr.

Five by Five. He made countless recordings with Basie and appeared in some Soundies as well, becoming one of the most famous and popular of jazz singers and blues shouters during his long career. November 2007 Brian Goggin. 12th September 1918. Arthur Scott registered for the WWI draft in New York City, unlike practically all of his contemporaries from about, New Orleans, who registered either in their home city or Chicago. The draft card gives his birth date as 11th January 1885. However, the 1900 U.S. Acute Stress? Census gives a birth date of January 1886. What About? The 1910 U.S. Stress Example? Census is in british intranet agreement with the draft card, giving his age as 25, while he deducted ten years from this when he gave his age as 24 to the census taker on 8th January 1920. Scotts Social Security Death Index gives his birth date as 11th January 1890, and that is the date supplied by most jazz reference books.

The date on the card is stress example most likely correct though, since Scott was said to have been working professionally from the turn of the leadership trait, century, and example, he said that he joined John Robichauxs band in beowulf symbols 1904. Stress? [NOS 90] In addition, Scott taught Louis Keppard (1888-1986) who started on modern the guitar aged 14; and he gave tips to Johnny St. Cyr (1890 or 1891-1966). This would strongly suggest that he was already an stress example, established musician, and at least a little older than both of them when they started learning to play. [NOS 65, 73, 86] And I become to be a very efficient guitarist, until I met, er, Bud Scott, one of the famous guitarists in this country today. I was known to is the, be the best. And when I found out that, er, he was dividing with me my popularity, I decided immediately to quit playing guitar and try the piano, which I did secretly that is, with the exception of my family. Theyre the acute stress, only ones that knew. [AFS 1640-B] Bud Scott left New Orleans in 1913 as featured violinist with Billy Kings Travelling Show. On Illinois Median Household? He moved to New York in acute stress 1915, and worked there and elsewhere in the northeast, primarily on violin and modern, banjo. Scott attended the School of Art in acute stress example 1917, where symphony conductor Walter Damrosch (1862-1950) taught him music theory and developmental definition, he also graduated from the Peabody Institute of stress Music. He did many engagements as a vocalist and a violinist at the Clef Club, which is beowulf symbols listed as his employer on his draft card, and during this time he even appeared at Carnegie Hall in 1919. [TJR 13-14] and acute example, [WWJ 294] Scott moved to Chicago in 1923, where he worked and recorded with King Olivers Creole Jazz Band.

He spent two periods in is the California, including stints with Kid Ory, before rejoining Oliver full time from acute stress example, 1925 until late 1926. During this time, he recorded on banjo with Olivers Dixie Syncopators. Leadership? Like Johnny St. Cyr, to stress example, whom he provided guidance, photographic evidence confirms that Scott played both the tenor banjo and the six-string guitar banjo. He was also responsible for delivering the Oh, Play That Thing! exclamation on the second version of Dippermouth Blues in 1923 and beowulf symbols, the 1926 remake of the tune, Sugar Foot Stomp. November 2008 Brian Goggin. William Henry Smith. William Henry Smith, better known as Willie (The Lion) Smith, was always prone to exaggeration when he spoke or wrote about himself.

There was often an element of acute stress half-truth in what he said, and his version of events was invariably self-serving. He had half a dozen different stories about how he got his nickname, but most jazz writers merely glossed over these inconsistencies, commenting that it was just his way. In many respects, The Lion was like Bunk Johnson, volunteering information, but not the whole story. He was something of a nightmare for researchers, but not any longer. February 2007 Peter Hanley. John Alexander St. Beowulf Symbols? Cyr. John Alexander St. Stress Example? Cyr was born in New Orleans on 17th April 1891, as per his draft card.

This birth date is consistent with the beowulf symbols, ages recorded for acute stress him in the 1910 and 1920 U.S. Census entries. However, his Social Security Death Index entry places his birth a year earlier, on 17th April 1890 and this is the date generally given in jazz literature. There also exists a New Orleans birth record, which gives a different date again of 1st February 1891. (New Orleans, Louisiana Birth Records index, 1790-1899, Volume 115, page 680) November 2008 Brian Goggin. Percussionist Jasper Taylor was an innovative and gifted performer. His recordings are a testament to modern day transcendentalist, his distinguished career in acute stress example jazz. He was born 1st January 1894 in Texarkana, Arkansas a dual municipality that encompasses Miller County, Arkansas and Bowie County, Texas. (Scott Joplin, ragtimes greatest composer, was born 26 years earlier on Essay on Illinois Median Income the Texas side of the line). September 2008 Hal Smith.

James Edward Yancey. 12th September 1918. The broad outline of James Edward Jimmy Yanceys early life probably doesnt differ much from what Bill Russell wrote in his notes for Yanceys 1940 RCA Victor album. He was born sometime near the turn of the 20th century in Chicago, and as a very young child began performing as a singer and dancer, possibly with his father, who was a singer and guitarist. Before reaching his teens he was on the road with various troupes from coast to acute example, coast, then all over Europe just before World War I, including a command performance for King George V in London.

While still a teenager, he left the road and returned to Chicago. He had never played piano onstage, but at some point had begun teaching himself to play blues.
